Gift ideas for my 1 1/2 yo. and 3 yo. (issues with gifts)?

sara

This Christmas my husband and I are running into an issue with buying gifts for our daughters, I was thinking of a Thomas the train set for both of them to share as we can add to it for birthdays and gift giving holidays but I'm afraid its to small for my youngest. Any thoughts or ideas on what I could get for them. Must buy either one big thing or two identical toys. Which is the problem. My oldest is ready for older kid toys (5-6 year old toys) because she is very mature and careful with her things and keeps them put away. But my youngest although she follows in her sisters foot steps and acts like she's 3 also is immature with toys chews on them throws them won't put them away puts them in her mouth ect. We cannot get different toys though has to be the same toy or they fight like cats and dogs. Youngest like princess and fairy stuff oldest likes fire trucks (because daddy is a firemen) and cars (towmater to be exact) but if one gets a princess and one gets a truck they fight and cry over not having the same things

There are toys that have a play range of 11/2 to 5 year old.

I got a 4 year old girl and 1 year on boy. I plan on getting them two cushion chairs and My Airport by Fisher Price from Kohls and a train. Other ideas blocks and books. Have the older read to the younger.

I year Old Birthday Party?

Faithfulch

I am planning to have a birthday celebration for my daughter who will be turning age one in February. I am totally clueless because i have never had a birthday party of my own. The few that had not gone to well i had not paid much attention. I want this to be perfect for her really and it is a big deal to me. I would appreciate some ideas regarding food, presents etc. that i could get for this occasion. Thanks

Well the 1st birthday is really more about the family and friends, more than the one year old. Basically everyone wants to see the baby and they want to see the baby make a mess with some cake. So as long as you have that everyone will be happy. When they are like 3-4 you really get to have fun planning the themed parties with games and all. But that doesn't mean you can't have fun planning the 1st one.

If friends and family have kids of various ages you will need to take that into consideration and make it fun for the other kids too. It could be as simple as coloring sheets and crayons set out or paper bags and those foamy stickers in a bowl for them to decorate.

If there will be people there that haven't gotten to be around a lot though the year then it might be fun to make a poster, collage or nicely framed arrangement of photos from the last year. It will be serve as good a conversation starter too.

Some party theme ideas I like are:

Baby Einstein 1st Birthday
Barn yard theme (kids can have animal masks?)
Cupcake theme
Kittens or another fave animal
Messy Art (maybe too young, but could have homemade playdough or washable finger paint)
Music (could buy or make cute shakers) "Strike up the band ______'s is One"
Bubbles(better if you live somewhere warm and can do one of those backyard bubble blowers

There are some great websites with ideas for cute invites, cakes and fun.

Also take into consideration what time of day the party is. Just like weddings that dictates if a meal is to be served or just snacks and cake. A party between 11:00 -2:00 usually means lunch and 5-7 dinner. Which doesn't mean if has to be fancy...sandwich platters, pasta salads, pizza are all ok. But if you would rather just do cake, juice, and maybe some fruit or crackers then make sure it's in between like 2-4

You know what your 12month old is ready for developmentally so get some fun toys and then maybe a special gift that can saved throughout the years.
