Polo Girl

So first baby, and of course baby shower. I tried going to The Children's Place and asking they do baby registry but they don't. Also to do the whole registry thing do we have to pay for anything? We know nothing about baby showers, and baby registry. So a step by step advice would be great. Like when we should do it and how we should do it.thanks!

Answer
Oooh I love this stuff! I just threw my little sis a baby shower for her first baby and have walkes her through the whole process. So, you should start your registry sometime after the 5and a half month pregnancy mark. the three best places to go( and i recommend registering at all three, I'll tell ya why below) first and most important go to Babys R Us because they have the most expansive selection, pretty much anything you can think of go to the front desk and they will walk you through the process of how to do it, give you some free samples, shower invites, and little cards that you put in the invites to tell guests where you are registered. Register for all the things you could need here except for clothes(styles are always changing and they may not be in stock by the time your guests shop, also you could notate in the registry that "clothes and gift cards are welcome") and also i would not register for any items like big furniture cuz it is way pricier than the other two places that i'll mention. second is target, they usually have a nice baby selection with some cute stylish items at good prices, here register for everything you don't mind extra of and the things you might not have cared for or couldn't find at Babys R Us. scan(they will give you handheld scanners at all these places to scan and register your items) a cute bedding set with all the coordinates, diapers in numerous sizes(not too many newborn cuz you'll end up with too many too small diapers that your baby won't be in long)lots of size1,2,3's,and wipes(at all 3 places add diapers and wipes cuz you cannot have too many). bottles, onsies, socks, packaged basic clothes like tshirts, ect. It doesnt matter if you have some duplicate items at all three places because since you're registered its very easy to return and trade for things you may not have received at your shower. Here or the next place is where you want to check out the furniture selection(carseat/carrier,highchair,bassinette,changing table, swing, bouncy seat, crib, dresser, the big carseat for after your baby outgrows the carrier(unless you pick one newborn to like 50lbs),stroller(the 3 in one with the stroller, carseat, and carseat base that all attaches together is a nice bargain),crib mattress, bathtub, ect)anything you think you might need and want to register for do so at one of the last two places.pick your theme or the styles you like.I personally put all my big stuff at one place after i found the theme i liked. So thelast place to register is Walmart. they have a great selection, wonderful prices for your guests and you are bound to get lots of items that you need and like off that registry. Here just go for it and put everything you could think of needing on there. Okay so to recap: Babys R us first, everything you might need, especially things that are not so common, no big furniture, no clothes. than go to target and pick everything you couldn't find or did'nt care for at BabysRUs.double some things that you need lots of or don't mind extras of,especially if you love a theme there.def, do diapers and wipes at all 3 places & things like baby detergent, baby laundry stain spray, lotion, ect. if you like furniture or big baby items there go for it.third go to walmart, go for broke, duplicate things off the other registries and pick any special items you like. Remember that these are essentially wish lists and only suggestions for people and it lets them know what you like and need. Have fun with it and pretend that if money were no object all the things you would pick and want for your baby. who cares how much you have on your registries because as i said they are merely ideas and it gives people lots to choose from. print copies of each registry as you go and open them because you can refer to them after your shower for items you may have liked but didn't receive and you can use your gift cards if you get some to go get the items yourself.so when you are all done take the little card from BabysRUs that says you are registered there and before you give them to the hosts or whomever does your invites write "also registered at Target and Walmart" on each little card. remember at each place you can add notes at the bottom so when people print them out they'll see things like"it's a girl/boy" ,"gift cards and clothes welcome", "theme of winnie the pooh(ect.)', "nursery colors in ____ & _____" .Right after the shower inventory all your gifts and take back the items you don't want or wish to trade or got too many of(my sis got three baby tubs even though she only registered for one at one place!it's bound to happen!)andspend any gift cards on things you still need. So i hope i helped. you asked for step by step and i tried to be detailed for you(: Good luck to you and your sweet baby to be.

What are some possible Baby shower themes?

Heidi P

I'm planning a baby shower for my almost sister-in-law! I have everything else pretty much going good for me, I just can't think of any possible themes... What kind of themes are their for a baby shower besides, baby on the way :P

So if anybody has any suggestions, that would be awesome! And for a baby gift, I have no clue what to get!

Answer
Ahh!! Baby showers are so much fun! Depending on the gender you could do a theme of "it's a boy/girl" I did my theme based on what I was doing his nursery in. Which was zoo animals. We played pin the diaper on the monkey. :) another game we did was guess my size?! Everyone took their idea of toilet paper that would wrap around my belly whoever was closest won a prize. We had zoo character bottles filled with m&ms in blue and green and orange. Another idea is a spa theme. Im assuming this is an all girls shower. Everyone could do facials and play games and snack out. Just be creative you can tie any theme into a baby shower!! It's really funn to come up with the different things to do. Good luck:)

I have a family friend who has bought my daughter soo much stuff for my baby shower, her birth, and her first birthday. I'm talking hundreds of dollars at a time. I certainly appreciate it, and would like to repay it back at her daughters occasions, but I can in no way afford it. Her daughters 2nd birthday is coming up, and I don't know what to get her. She literally has everything a girl could want. I would like to get her something relatively big, a preschool gift basket of some sort maybe. I don't know what 2 year old need.

Answer
wow thats a toughy! I used to be a nanny for very well off people and it was the same thing! But in the cuboards stored away there were hundreds of gifts for them still wrapped from years ago!
I know that you want your friends approval or maybe shes the type who would say to herself "wow thats better than the present I got her".
But hey try and think of something she would reallllly enjoy, and think of you for. Sometimes the simplest things are so much more of a pleasure.
My girl is two... and her FAVOURITE thing is this hanbag that she takes every where! theyre also really into copying what mum does. So maybe a tea set or pretend microwave, pots and pans. Theyre very into pretend play.
If you go with the bag idea, buy a little toy phone, purse, note pad and pop some coins in there. Because it will garuantee to be a hit. Rather than some really expensive flashing ball throwing thing that will be a novelty for two weeks then loose intrest in.
P.S. sorry I have written a novel here but I feel that this is something I really know about. good luck and update us k!

Making the big brother feel special at a baby shower?

ScarletBeg

We are having a baby shower for my sister next week. This will be her second son, her current son is 3 years old.
We are having Grandpa, my husband and my brother (I have 3 year old girl and brother has 2 year old boy) take the kids out during the shower.
We wanted to do something special for the "big brother" at the beginning of the shower, before they leave. Any ideas? We don't have much money left to get him gifts, but wanted something creative to involve him a little bit.

Answer
I think creating a "To Do" list for the big brother would be a great idea... get a notebook ... and at the beginning of the shower have everyone list off all the great things he will get to do as a big brother. Write one down on each page of the notebook and then have him decorate the pages with crayons, markers, cut-out from magazines or whatever is creative little heart can come up with, and have it be like a little scrap book that he will have to look back on (when his brother is old enough to irritate him) and see how excited he was and all the plans he made for the two of them.

My sister-in-law is having her first baby. My mother-in-law threw her a baby shower 2 days ago and invited the entire family. It was a large shower. Today in the mail I received an invitation for another baby shower for her that is being thrown by a close friend who was in attendance at the first shower. I already bought a gift for the first shower. Do I have to get her another gift or even attend the 2nd shower?

Answer
No, you do not.

If people have more than one shower for the same baby it's generally because two totally different groups host one(i.e. one for family and another for coworkers). They shouldn't be inviting the same people over and over!

Clever way to tell my mother that my husband and I are expecting as well as my sister and her fiance?

Stephanie

I got a couple baby gifts for my mother to open on Christmas, to tell her my husband and I are expecting. Then the other day my sister told me she and her fiance are also expecting. We wanted to tell her at the same time but we couldn't think of any good ideas. She really wants to be a grandmother and I know she is going to be ecstatic no matter what we do but does anybody have any good ideas for us??
Thank you in advance.

What is Customary to get my Godson as a Gift for his Christening?

::: Zagori

I am travelling to Australia from Europe for my Godsons Christening. He will be 9 months old at the time. What sort of gift should i get him? Also, i am buying his outfit for the Ceremony, what should it look like? Should it be all white? His mother is young, and not into the whole long dress gowns that Babies used to wear...
Any ideas are appreciated!
Thanks!

Answer
traditionally the godmother (parents) bought the baptismal candle, the outfit, and a gift. (gets kinda pricey, doesn't it?) i think the best gift is a child's first bible, and it doesn't need to be an expensive one. the one we got was child-friendly, with bright pictures and very short stories. (and, of course, a very sweet note inside from his godparents!) my boys all wore a snow-white dress shirt, pants, socks and shoes, with white-on-white patterned vest and matching bow tie. my mom sewed them so all the boys' outfits were the same, but i found a website where you can order one. another great gift we received was a baptismal BIB! it protected his good outfit, but he was still lookin dapper! you could also buy a gold or silver cross necklace in a nice box... not to be worn but to to be carried by his wife on their wedding day.

Answer
Make a basket and buy alot of little stuff for your cousin and not expensive at all. Buy everything that cost a dollar and with $20.00 you can buy shampoo, cream, pacifiers, bottles, wipers, bibs, dipers and a clear cellophane paper and wrap it and put a pretty bow and it will look amazing like a gift that cost you a million dollars. Try it and congratulations with the new baby.

gift for mom 2010 image

Zane

When my grandparents passed away, there was a provision in their will for $100,000 to be left in trust for me and my 3 siblings. More specifically, each of us was to be given $25,000 in trust at the time of their death, and given the balance of that money plus whatever had accrued in interest, at the time that we each turn 21 years of age. My father was left in charge of putting that money in trust for us. He did not do so. My parents divorced in 2002. My grandmother passed away in 2005, and my grandfather passed away in 2008. My uncle was left as the executor of the estate. In February 2009, my uncle gave my father four checks for $25,000 each, written out to each of 4 kids. He also gave him a letter from the estate's lawyers stating what should be done with that money, according to the Uniform Transfer to Minors Act. That money was not put into trust. Also, neither me, my siblings, nor my mother was ever told that there was supposed to be money in a trust for us. We found out about the money in 2010, approximately 2 months after my oldest brother turned 21. When my mom and brother confronted my father about the will, at first he denied knowing anything about it. Then he changed his story to say that it was for $5,000 each, to be given to us when we turn 25 years old. When my mom and brother showed up at his house with photocopies of the checks and the letter from the estate lawyer (provided by my uncle) my father then changed his story to say that his lawyer said that he could divide the money up to split it 6 ways, to include his new children (his new wife's kids that he adopted). Later that day, he called my brother and said that he had misunderstood his lawyer and would have my brother's money to him within 2 weeks. My brother did get his money... but it was paid out in a weird way. First of all, my father purposefully left out $400, saying that he had given my brother some money out of his "trust" to move several months prior. He had given my brother $400 to move, but had told my brother that it was a gift from him and his wife. The remaining $24,600 was divided up into a cashier's check and a personal check from my dad's account. I turned 21 last August. In the weeks prior to my birthday, my father told me that I would be receiving my money. However, when my birthday came, he told me that he did not have any of the money. He says that he "drank" the money (he is an alcoholic) and that a lot of the money went to pay for his recovery. I am at a very low point in my life. At almost 22 years old, I am back living with my mother. I moved out in my senior year of high school, because I was an idiot and thought I knew it all. I am not asking for a hand-out. I am just trying to get what is rightfully mine. I have 2 little sisters, who deserve their gift from our grandparents too. Had the money been put away correctly, and accruing interest all this time, they would've had a good little nest egg to go to college with. Oh, and by the way, my step-sister is enrolled as a freshman at Long Beach State this fall. I find it hard to believe that none of our trust money is left for us, but somehow she is going to college. And my father was specifically excluded in my grandparents' will. For the past few years I had been living in Bakersfield, CA. I had an apartment with a few friends and things seemed to be going well. That was until my roommates decided to ditch out on the lease and abandon the apartment. I tried several different areas in Bakersfield to find another apartment but had no luck. I ended up being homeless and very hungry. I tried to turn things around for myself but had no such luck. I was unable to find any work in Bakersfield to support myself and I even turned to Plasma Donation to make some money to eat. I finally accepted my life for what it was and asked for my mother's help.

Answer
. Call an estate lawyer since the estate laws are different from State to State, and you need to seek an attorney, not opinion from some guy on Yahoo. Most lawyers will give you a free in office consultation, and you and the lawyer can decide if the case is worth while. You can sometime arrange a payment to the lawyer based on a percentage of what the court deems your to receive. That being said, you should also ask if the law in your State will make your father actually pay the court decision. Sometimes there aren't laws to force payment unless the judge orders property seizures. But for all that you need to talk to the lawyer. Write down all of your questions before you go.

Is it appropriate to get a small gift for the older sibling of a birthday baby?

gift for 4 year baby image

october g

We're going to a small birthday gathering for a lady from church whose baby is turning 1. She also has a daughter who will be 4 in December. Would it be appropriate to get a small gift for the older sibling. And by small I mean like a cheapy $1 princess jewelry set from the dollar store or something. My husband says "no, just get a gift for the 1 year old. Kids need to learn they can't always get gifts at a birthday party." Besides, my almost 3 year old is friends with the almost 4 year old so I thought it would be kind of cool for my daughter to give something to her. Appropriate or not?

Answer
Ahhhhhh, I have mixed feelings on this.

I have done it, because the older sibling feels left out of all the attention devoted to the baby, but it does spoil them, and they do have to learn that everything is not always about them.

Maybe stop when the older child hits 6 or 7?

What is a great baby gift idea in this case?

JaimieS

I want to purchase a gift for a friend who is having a baby. I want to make it a group gift from a group of 3-4 year olds. Do you have any ideas? They can write their names, maybe a blanket written on with a fabric pen, it can't be super big or alot of stuff. I guess it could be a baby item from them with a card they all wrote on. Do you have any other really creative ideas that could work? I love brainstorming!

Answer
They make stuffed animals called autograph animals. I got one at a party and card store in my local town. It was a ducky made of a pleather type material. So I had everyone at my shower sign it so I could give it to my daughter when she was older. You could use any stuffed animal made out of a fabric like that.

How quickly will ipod touch 4g sell out on black friday at target?

gifts for mom $30..$50

gifts for mom $30..$50 image
Q. Oh, and all I have heard about black friday are bad things. Should a fifteen year old go with her mom? How long will 8gb ipod touch supplies last at target? Should we go in the morning or later tonight? I have heard people have died. I'm kinda scared. Some reassuring words would also be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Answer
A fifteen year old should definitely go with her mom, as it is the busiest few hours of the year. (I went to Wal-mart around 10PM, and it was pandemonium. I left within 20 minutes.) Electronics are especially popular. Target's Black Friday sale started at Midnight. With sales starting earlier and earlier each year (instead of the middle of the night), more people will venture out to the sale. I'm sure this item is gone within the first 5 minutes of the sale.

If you're really interested in getting any Black Friday items, you need to be at the store (in the appropriate department) at least an hour before, if not several hours before hand. [Depending on the item] Best Buy has individuals camping out a few nights in advance. It all depends on how much your time is worth to you.

BTW, Amazon had a Black Friday 'Lightning Deal' on the iPod Touch 8GB at Midnight -- and only from the 'Lightning Deal' page.

I added it to my cart as soon as the sale started, but within ONE MINUTE, all items were sold and I didn't get it. :(

Why? The price was $145(!), which is the best I've seen it anywhere. Even better than the offers Best Buy, Radio Shack, Target, and Toys R Us were offering -- around $190-$199, plus $30-$50 gift cards.

Perhaps your best bet is to visit Apple's site and see what offer they'll make. One site implied the price would be $178, but I can't figure out what time their Black Friday sales starts.

Apple's Black Friday page is currently down -- if you want one you'll need to keep refreshing the page. Hopefully it starts soon, instead of at 5AM-8AM.

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/holiday/shopping_event?aid=www-HomePage-BlackFriday-Teaser

In any event, there's always 'Cyber Monday'. Besides, the current iPod Touch is over a year old. Even if you don't get it, the next generation (hopefully) will be much better, since Apple didn't upgrade the hardware in October.

Yet, for $145 I think I could have lived with it.

how can i recreate some of the looks in the PBTeen catalog for less?

seeme0nth3

im 14 and i am redoing my room but i really LOVE some of the looks in PBTeen but nmy mom wont buy any of the furnatrue... HELP! how can i create some of the looks and stuff for less?

Answer
First Up, PBTeen has a Back to School giveaway at the moment, $5000 room makeover, so I hope you entered that? If not, it is on bottom left of this page http://www.pbteen.com/stylehouse/index.cfm

Secondly PB teen doesn't necessarily have fancier furniture, in fact the main furniture pieces are plain and white (beds, dressers), but they do use gorgeous colours to great effect, and that CAN be replicated cheaply.

So for example.. this page http://www.pbteen.com/gift/thm/thmgrl/thmgrllbu/index.cfm
has mostly white furniture, paint yours white, shelves with round holed doors? use existing shelves paint the back and sides of shelves (but not the actual shelf) your favorite colour (in the pic it is pink) and ask mum or dad to cut out the circles in your shelving doors with a jigsaw blade, or if they aren't keen on that, or you don't have doors on your shelves, you could cheat and use the plastic that is used for real estate signs out front of for sale houses, no idea what it is called but it is a fantastic material that you can pick up for about $10 at sign shops. It can be cut with a craft knife, though don't make doors out of them, just glue or double sided tape them to the shelf fronts (measure first, make sure it is all laid out really well, and the circles are evenly placed with good access to shelves, enough room to get things in and out etc)
Next, the rug, while the fuzzy one is cute, it will cost, so either see if you can buy a carpet offcut cheaply or on ebay, and use dyes to make the circles or permanent markers, though test it first, in case the colours don't come out as well.
The pics are easy, you can buy little canvases for $2 to $5 ea, just put little screw hooks or eyelets in the back, thread a nice ribbon through and knot them so they hang evenly, you can put on your fav. pics, print something out, paint your own, use some nice scrapbook background paper (they are very cheap about $1 ea) or whatever for the pics.
The bedhead, well, I love it, but it will cost around $30-50 to make I think, you need a board and someone to help you either replace your existing headboard or pull apart the one you have now so you can work on it, wadding or foam, adhesive spray, velvet or suede, and buttons to match. Make sure you mark out where the buttons will go and drill holes (SMALL VERY SMALL) through the board to attach them - which you do last, first though spray the adhesive on the board, put the foam on, lay velvet or suede right side down on floor and put foam on top of it then using a staple gun (about $10 if you don't have one) pull the material in the middle of the long side and attach and work evenly along that one side, then go to the opposite side, pull firmly but not too tight and staple that side, you then use the same method to do the shorter side, cutting out excess fabric at the corners or using a hospital bed tuck, so it looks fairly smooth. Next, using a very strong yarn and a large needle, 'sew' the button on by starting at the holes you made in the back thread it to the front, loop the button on, and thread the yarn back through the hole - make sure it looks ok from the front 1st - either do it in front of a mirror or ask for help - then tie it off, you can add some hot glue gun to the knot to ensure it stays in place.

You can get plain white sheets, cut out a circle with sponge or potato or something and put dots on the bedding in different colours using a fabric dye.

In other pics they have different pieces that make the room look fantastic like a colourful bean bag or chair, or lamp or curtains, if you think about it these can all be made, or existing pieces updated or recovered quite cheaply, keeping mum and you happy. Hope that has given you some food for thought.
