gifts for mom $30..$50 image
Q. Oh, and all I have heard about black friday are bad things. Should a fifteen year old go with her mom? How long will 8gb ipod touch supplies last at target? Should we go in the morning or later tonight? I have heard people have died. I'm kinda scared. Some reassuring words would also be helpful. Thanks in advance.
Answer
A fifteen year old should definitely go with her mom, as it is the busiest few hours of the year. (I went to Wal-mart around 10PM, and it was pandemonium. I left within 20 minutes.) Electronics are especially popular. Target's Black Friday sale started at Midnight. With sales starting earlier and earlier each year (instead of the middle of the night), more people will venture out to the sale. I'm sure this item is gone within the first 5 minutes of the sale.
If you're really interested in getting any Black Friday items, you need to be at the store (in the appropriate department) at least an hour before, if not several hours before hand. [Depending on the item] Best Buy has individuals camping out a few nights in advance. It all depends on how much your time is worth to you.
BTW, Amazon had a Black Friday 'Lightning Deal' on the iPod Touch 8GB at Midnight -- and only from the 'Lightning Deal' page.
I added it to my cart as soon as the sale started, but within ONE MINUTE, all items were sold and I didn't get it. :(
Why? The price was $145(!), which is the best I've seen it anywhere. Even better than the offers Best Buy, Radio Shack, Target, and Toys R Us were offering -- around $190-$199, plus $30-$50 gift cards.
Perhaps your best bet is to visit Apple's site and see what offer they'll make. One site implied the price would be $178, but I can't figure out what time their Black Friday sales starts.
Apple's Black Friday page is currently down -- if you want one you'll need to keep refreshing the page. Hopefully it starts soon, instead of at 5AM-8AM.

In any event, there's always 'Cyber Monday'. Besides, the current iPod Touch is over a year old. Even if you don't get it, the next generation (hopefully) will be much better, since Apple didn't upgrade the hardware in October.
Yet, for $145 I think I could have lived with it.

Answer
First Up, PBTeen has a Back to School giveaway at the moment, $5000 room makeover, so I hope you entered that? If not, it is on bottom left of this page http://www.pbteen.com/stylehouse/index.cfm
Secondly PB teen doesn't necessarily have fancier furniture, in fact the main furniture pieces are plain and white (beds, dressers), but they do use gorgeous colours to great effect, and that CAN be replicated cheaply.
So for example.. this page http://www.pbteen.com/gift/thm/thmgrl/thmgrllbu/index.cfm
has mostly white furniture, paint yours white, shelves with round holed doors? use existing shelves paint the back and sides of shelves (but not the actual shelf) your favorite colour (in the pic it is pink) and ask mum or dad to cut out the circles in your shelving doors with a jigsaw blade, or if they aren't keen on that, or you don't have doors on your shelves, you could cheat and use the plastic that is used for real estate signs out front of for sale houses, no idea what it is called but it is a fantastic material that you can pick up for about $10 at sign shops. It can be cut with a craft knife, though don't make doors out of them, just glue or double sided tape them to the shelf fronts (measure first, make sure it is all laid out really well, and the circles are evenly placed with good access to shelves, enough room to get things in and out etc)
Next, the rug, while the fuzzy one is cute, it will cost, so either see if you can buy a carpet offcut cheaply or on ebay, and use dyes to make the circles or permanent markers, though test it first, in case the colours don't come out as well.
The pics are easy, you can buy little canvases for $2 to $5 ea, just put little screw hooks or eyelets in the back, thread a nice ribbon through and knot them so they hang evenly, you can put on your fav. pics, print something out, paint your own, use some nice scrapbook background paper (they are very cheap about $1 ea) or whatever for the pics.
The bedhead, well, I love it, but it will cost around $30-50 to make I think, you need a board and someone to help you either replace your existing headboard or pull apart the one you have now so you can work on it, wadding or foam, adhesive spray, velvet or suede, and buttons to match. Make sure you mark out where the buttons will go and drill holes (SMALL VERY SMALL) through the board to attach them - which you do last, first though spray the adhesive on the board, put the foam on, lay velvet or suede right side down on floor and put foam on top of it then using a staple gun (about $10 if you don't have one) pull the material in the middle of the long side and attach and work evenly along that one side, then go to the opposite side, pull firmly but not too tight and staple that side, you then use the same method to do the shorter side, cutting out excess fabric at the corners or using a hospital bed tuck, so it looks fairly smooth. Next, using a very strong yarn and a large needle, 'sew' the button on by starting at the holes you made in the back thread it to the front, loop the button on, and thread the yarn back through the hole - make sure it looks ok from the front 1st - either do it in front of a mirror or ask for help - then tie it off, you can add some hot glue gun to the knot to ensure it stays in place.
You can get plain white sheets, cut out a circle with sponge or potato or something and put dots on the bedding in different colours using a fabric dye.
In other pics they have different pieces that make the room look fantastic like a colourful bean bag or chair, or lamp or curtains, if you think about it these can all be made, or existing pieces updated or recovered quite cheaply, keeping mum and you happy. Hope that has given you some food for thought.
