J Fish

Now, I've heard of the whole "send icing, cake mix, etc", but I'm pretty sure his family is already doing something along those lines.. I'm terrible at picking out ties, and I honestly have no idea what else would be an appropriate gift.... Any ideas?
Please, don't hate on mormon missionaries. They're just young men trying to spread their message.

I really do need help with this. Please no joke answers.

Answer
Well it depends on where he is, but in all honesty, care packages with useful things you use in daily life, plus a few personal things like a card or photo. If all else fails, send a basketball. EVERY missionary wants a basketball.

Approximately how much will it take to ship something small to Germany?

Christine

I have a friend in Germany, and it was recently his birthday, and I want to send him a late birthday gift. I was thinking of a t-shirt or something of similar weight. I know I can just go to my local post office to find out how much it would cost, but maybe I thought it would be easier to just get an answer on here. Anyone have any idea? The total weight should be about 1lb or less.
Thanks!

Answer
Pretty likely at least $15. Air mail isn't cheap. Get a Tyvek envelope to put it in. They weigh almost nothing and are very strong.

Hi I need some new ideas for a bday gift for my son - hes turning 11 years old! I nned some cool ideas other than the usual lego he wants - hes got too many legos so I refuse to buy more! Thanks!

Answer
My 10 1/2 year old son really likes Webkinz ( and so do his friends). They also like Nerf guns. He also really wants a marshmallow shooter .
This year we got him tickets to a pro football game for his main gift - he thought that was awesome!

Good luck!

What kind of person should I get for my sons birthday?

Moonlight

He is turning 10 and Im going to have 10 kids over 6 boys and 4 girls. Should I hire a magician or something similar what would 10 year old kids like I cant get a reptile person because I have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) OR is there such thing as a person who brings birds or fish or would they like a magician?

Answer
Hi,

Try doing music and decorations with home made or store bought gift music CD's for kids, as well as inexpensive toys in a gift bag, plus cake, ice cream, chips, drinks, etc. That should do it, try not to get too crazy or too special, kids have short attention spans, love the "junk" foods, and a few items to chat about, and then on to the next adventure, party, etc. There are all sorts of idea books, in print as well as online, - do a google search, that might give you a few ideas. Good luck, Happy Birthday young fella.

my 10 year old sister is having a birthday party and its ganna be held at our house. shes inviting like 7-10 of her girl friends and i was ganna do their hair and makeup..but i mean, what else should we do? pictures? ideas?

Answer
This is just a cute quick idea for anybody probably ages 10-teen The night before you are hosting your party go to the supermarket and buy a bunch of icecream and a bunch of toppings.INVITATIONS- Anything colorful and creative:You probably want to involve something with icecream on the invite. If the kids are younger you might want to tell them to bring old clothing. Before the party fill a spacious room with 2-3 tables and you put disposable table cloths onto each table.Depending on how many kids there are that is how many tables you will need. On each table put any size pan but all the pans should be the same size. On each table put 2-3 tubs of any flavor ice cream the kids enjoy. Put the same amount and the same kinds of icecream toppings on the table and appliances (like spoons plastic or not)When the kids arrive (at about five) dont let them in that particular room yet because you will want to keep it a surprise for the other kids or your kid if it is a surprise. Have everyone gather into a different room than the one with the tables and just let them hang out until 5:15. After that if you have a pool let them swim for about an hour.(until 6:20) and then have them come in for dinner (pizza or anything you want it depends on how everyone likes food or what kinds of food they like)After dinner it will probably be about 6:45-6:50 and gather the kids into the room with the tables and split them into 2-3 teams depending on how many kids are coming. Tell them they have a certain amount of time to make an ice cream cake(I'D SAY ABOUT 45 MINUTES)at the end of those 45 minutes everyone will vote for which cake is more good looking and that will be the cake they have for the persons birthday. When thats done at about 7:50 let the kids get dressed again and take them outside at eight where there will be music and a bar with drinks like soda and lemonade whatever the kids like and snacks if you want you can make up fake money for the kids to purchase that kind of stuff. Dance the night away until about eleven go inside and open your gifts and at eleven thirty change back into your bathing suit and go for a late night swim until 12:45 settle into a jacuzzi or go inside. When your inside change into your pjs. set up your sleeping bags pop in a movie and make popcorn and have a tiny piece of the other cake.play truth or dare or paint nails or do facials until everyone falls asleep. The first one to fall asleep will have a bunch of practical jokes played on them. In the morning have a breakfast buffet and you could swim again too. Give each girl a body lotion and lipgloss. Have their parents come at 12p.m.

What are some good ideas for a sweet sixteen birthday party?

I have a 16th birthday coming up and I am desperate for some ideas for a good party. I want it to be fun but also affordable. Does anyone know of anything that fits those guidlines???

Answer
well for my 16th bday i had a party of about 20 people at my house with a set theme which was fantasy masquerade. the guests all dressed up and wore masks, and my sister even did some aerial works which was super cool. All that we paid for was food, since my friends mom brought us decors as part of my bday gift.
If you have a space you can use at your house or a friends, ask the parents. Most are cool with it as long as they are near to supervise (my parents stayed upstairs except when they cooked dinner). Then you can pick a theme you like. From there planning is easy. Pick easy foods to eat/make. We had a pasta bar that had 2 different sauces and 3 different toppings since my friends are picky eaters along with salad (for my friend who cant have pasta) and chips and dip and veggie platters. also pizza can be done as is fairly cheap since the larger the order, the more discount you get. For decor it would depend on theme and space. Lights and fog are always cool to have, but if you dnt have lighting equipment you can buy colored bulbs to replace regular bulbs (they are sold at hardware stores for like $5, this is what i did) it creates a cool effect and adds a mood to the area also streamers can help or pther theme pieces, but always have table cloths whether fabric or plastic (plastic is better) since every party someone spills something
for music, i just played my ipod and friends ipods, before the party i asked a couple of friends to create playlists for dancing and we set it up to play through out the night, it saved us the money of a dj and all we did is hook them up to speakers

if you dont want to do something at home, you could have a party at a pool or park or even just go to a place for dinner thats nice with all your friends in formal dress

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

ps theme ideas include masquerade, mardi gra, popstar/rock star, circus, gothic, basic costume, set costume theme (ie pirate), formal, a party where outfits have to be made of things other than clothing (make sure you state that things must be covered!)

what are great birthday gift ideas for my soon to be 16 year old sister?

PINNKYWINN

My sister and i are really close but i have no idea what to get her for her 16th birthday anyone have any idea?

Answer
For a Sweet Sixteen, I would go with something girly, probably pink (unless she hates pink) such as a bathrobe from Aerie, Victoria's Secret/PINK, or Target. You can also do cute bedroom slippers. Bath and Body Works may have some of those items too.

It really depends on your price range...if you have a little more money, get her a bottle of perfume! Is there one she likes/has been talking about? I would suggest Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, Marc Jacobs Daisy, DKNY Be Delicious, or Aquolina Pink Sugar as fun, young fragrances that are light and sweet.

Does she have a lot of jewelry? A jewelry box might be a nice gift. Check at department stores, even Pottery Barn has cute ones.

You can do a pair of simple, nice, earrings from a jewelry shop (real ones, though...not like Claire's). Or consider a charm bracelet chain with a starter charm. There is the standard link but also Pandora bracelets as well.

I hope these suggestions work, good luck!

I want to give my 17 year old daughter a gift to surprise her?

fallingpri

she has everything ,and its hard to decide about something to make her really happy..any idea?

Answer
Depending upon your budget. Sometimes we forget the things we can do together. For my granddaughter' 16th birthday, we flew to San Francisco for 10 days. It was a memorial experience for the both of us. We had the best time experiencing all the tourist sights, staying in a suite near the waterfront. Being together with your daughter when, more than likely, she likes to "hang out" with her friends and exclude you, is invaluable. You could pick a place she has always wanted to go and surprise her with a wonderful trip.

I need Libran advice!!!! Capricorn Sun with Taurus Moon, Venus in Aquarius, Mars in Pisces loves Libra Sun.?

J.D. Capri

Ok, so I've posted a similar question before- but here are more specs about me...don't have so many about him...
Sun: Capricorn
Moon: Taurus
Rising: Virgo
Venus: Aquarius
Mars: Pisces

Ok- tell me if you think i have a shot with Libra- I'm pretty gaga over him, but I just don't get him at all. He makes me laugh. But I feel pretty socially inadequate compared to him- although I have my moments. I just don't understand how I have to keep expressing how much I like him, and he still doesnt believe me.

Answer
Libra is the sign of balance and balanced judgment, beauty, art, charm, and the social graces. Aries acts. Libra reacts. This is why it needs a partner, someone to get things started. Any planet placed in Libra will demonstrate that sense of balance, swinging from one side to another.

The Sun in Libra: Never tell one of these folks that they arenât being fair. They tend to get angry with that one. And never argue with a Libra Sun-Sign head on. They will counter your every argument. Just look thoughtful, as if you are listening to their every word. You donât actually HAVE to listen. Just look that way. With Libra Sun-Signs, itâs the outer form that counts. After they have finished, say "I see youâre point. But ON THE OTHER HAND" (and you must say "on the other hand") "isnât there another side?" In many cases, they will think for a second or two, and reply, "Youâre right, thereâs another side" and they will proceed to argue for it and demolish their own point of view. A very fair sign. Balance is the key to understanding Libra. They can be aggressive one day and passive the next, hard at work one month and take it easy the next. And always, that charm, even when they are being shocking, like Lenny Bruce.

The Moon in Libra: needs charming surroundings at home. Not anything gaudy or showy. That would be more Leo. Just charming and in good taste. The women in the life tend to be charming and artistic, but not emotional or nurturing. Remember that little elegant touches appeal to Libra and that the Moon rules emotions. If you are dating someone with a Libra Moon, small touches will activate their emotions. Something like a tasteful card or small gift to show appreciation. They may seem above emotion, but they will feel really hurt if you forget their birthday.

Mercury in Libra: gives an active mind that sees both sides of everything. Libra is the sign of the balance. People with this one can take a long time to reach a decision, and then change it quickly when one new bit of information becomes available. Mercury in Libra people think better with a partner around.

Venus in Libra: is in its own sign. Venus shows what makes us happy, and here in Libra, that means beauty, tasteful surroundings, pleasant intellectual conversation. The negative side is a tendency to be superficial in relationships, ignoring the true character of people as long as they act on the surface with good taste.

Mars in Libra: has the maddening trait of fighting on both sides at once. Mars is supposed to be weak in Libra? Donât believe it. It just keeps switching sides out of "fairness". A friend of mine has this one. During the Vietnam war, it was a toss-up who he was rooting for at any given time. One day he wanted to bomb Hanoi, the next day, he wanted to bomb the Pentagon (metaphorically of course; he was a peaceful sort). The one thing that gets these people moving in one, and only one direction is an obvious and clear injustice.

Jupiter in Libra: Jupiter shows how we can put all those little facts together, how we get the big picture. Aires will do this fast. Libra tends to take time. It has to balance all the factors. Unless something else interferes, Jupiter in Libra feels secure and safe in partnership situations.

Saturn in Libra: needs a partner in order to feel safe and secure. But it doesnât have to be a marriage partner, nor does it have to be permanent. They simply need someone around to help them knock around ideas. Since Saturn is also the planet of fear, this placement of Saturn can also give fears with respect to partners. Perhaps, for example, a fear of loosing them or of making a mistake and driving them away.

Uranus in Libra: The planet of "Iâve got to be free" in the sign of partnership produces a generation of folks who tend to need their own space in marriage.

Neptune in Libra: This last happened from 1943 to 1956. That was the time of the "Man in the Gray Flannel Suit", the conformist, the company man. After the Great Depression and World War II, everyone wanted to get back to "normalcy". The illusion of that age was to think that if you donât rock the boat, everything will be allright. For people born with this placement, there is a love of fairness and justice. Ironically, this generation did rock the boat during the riots and demonstrations of the 1960âs. Most of them were also born with Pluto in Leo, which added fuel to the fire.

Pluto in Libra Pluto in Libra: gave us a generation (1972 to 1984) that will be obsessed with art. When they grow older and move into positions of power, look for an increase in the art market. They will also be obsessed with fairness, justice, and partnership. Look for the institution of marriage to make a brief comeback, and for a push to reform the legal codes

Can you help me!?

Birthday: 3-20-1997

I was born in Michigan.

What sign i am most compatible with (relationship.).

Theres the chart... what does it mean?

Answer
* Okay, so looking at the chart, you have Virgo rising, Sun in Pisces and Moon in Capricorn. This is the core of your personality; who your are, how you express emotions and how you appear to other people. The Virgo rising gives other people the impression that you are shy, introverted, and sensitive to other people's feelings or vibes. You seem to be concerned about the details of life and may get caught up in them without watching yourself carefully. Your Pisces Sun is indeed sensitive to others, and sensitive to the unheard things in the world. You can be psychic, you can pick up on things most people don't. There is a difficulty with expressing all of your emotions, the Capricorn Moon is careful about who she shows her vulnerabilities to. She can be quite cool and withdrawn either when she is uncomfortable or when she is angry. You have an exact conjunction between Venus and Mercury. In english this means you have a gift of communication; you have a way with words. You can be quite charming and persuasive and a great salesperson. You love to communicate. Your Jupiter conjunction Uranus makes you feel that there are times when you are convinced you have the greatest idea known to man!! You feel inspired and your thoughts are original and innovative. You have a T Square with the Moon in Capricorn/Mars in Libra/ and Saturn in Aries. You need to look up the meaning of the TSquare in cardinal signs. The chart means much much more than what I've said, did you read the interpretations that came with the chart? The best way to understand the chart is to read, read, read. Look at the information on sites like cafeastrology-they have lots of info you can look up.

Well, my grandmother is an amazing woman.
Strong, helpful, kind, understanding and a great rolemodel.
She's lived with us since I was born, so almost 15 years and she's been more than just a grandmother to me. It's almost as if she was my own mother.
Well, I figured it would be a nice thing to sing and play something on my guitar for her on her birthday, but I have no idea what song to choose.
Any suggestions?

Answer
Harvest Moon by Neil Young: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVi0UvFu8Yo

And if you want to melt her heart with a wonderful gift to accompany the song:

Make it a gift from all the family from an old photo perhaps of her and your Grandfather!

I hope this helps!

How can i make my brother act grateful on Christmas?

birthday gift ideas india
on Special Birthday Gift for my Husband
birthday gift ideas india image

Livvy

OK. So on christmas, if my brother doesn't like a gift, he acts like it. For example, he opened this really cool glasses/gloves pack (he likes building things) to protect him when he uses the dremel, and he goes "Dad, these are like your size." and my dads like "no, theyre your size look try them on" and my brothers like "yea thatll fit me in ten years." I was baffled! He didn't even say thank you or smile or anything! For some reason, seeing how ungrateful he acts makes me very very very sad. For some reason, i was never EVER EVER like that, even when i was 3 i knew to pretend you love everything even if you don't. I always act grateful and act like i love it so much. My brother does not. I try to say to him not to do that and he says he wont, but he does! m dad said to him when he acts like this on christmas, in a hurt way he said "oh.... sorry bud.... merry christmas?" he said that in a hurt way. I HATE when my brother does this. Again, it makes me feel depressed. i have no idea why. Please give me some suggestions on how to make my brother at least ACT grateful!
Also, i kind of dread christmas every year just because i feel so bad for the way my brother acts! I get soooooo sad!

Answer
You sound a very sensitive & smart individual. You do not need to be depressed because of your brother's behavior. If it is possible, you can talk/explain to your brother how you really feel about his ungratefulness. Be careful, when you talk to him, it is better to speak to him in "not blaming him" tone.

I do not know how old you are, but you also should share about your feelings and sadness with your parents. Your parents need to do something about your brother's behavior. He may grew out of it, but if not, he will be one of those "forever" unhappy shappy little men.

Unfortunately I do know many kids, even many adults who behave just like your brother does, Your brother needs some guidance and understanding. If he did not want to co-operate and/or have no empathy about others' feelings being hurt and continue to act as a brat, perhaps your parents should buy an airplane ticket to India as a Christmas gift, so that he can have a dream vacation in an Indian slum.

It is unfortunate, that how the Christmas became a holiday for gifts to each other, instead of just celebrating the Jesus's birthday, eat and be merry with family and friends.

Finally you can't change people, but you can change your attitude towards those people. Do not let your brother's bad behavior ruin your holiday. The harsh truth is in your life you will meet all kinds of people with nasty habits and behaviors. You will learn to deal with it.

A Happy Christmas!

Where did the annual celebration of the Birthday come from?

Answer
A birthday, as the term implies, is the anniversary of the particular day on which a person was born. Though by no means universal, such occasions are celebrated in numerous cultures, often with a party or, in some instances, a rite of passage.
Though major religious traditions such as the Buddhist or the Christian celebrate the birth of their founders, the most obvious example of which is Christmas, principled opposition to the very idea of celebrating birthdays is to be found among certain religious groups.
Cultural and legal conventions
In most legal systems, one becomes a legal adult on a particular birthday (often 18th or 21st), and at different ages gains different rights and responsibilities â voting, certain drug use (for example, alcohol, purchasing tobacco), eligibility for military conscription or voluntary enlistment, purchasing lottery tickets, vehicle driving licenses, etc.[citation needed]

Many cultures have one or more coming of age birthdays:

Jewish boys have a bar mitzvah on or around their 13th birthday. Jewish girls have a bat mitzvah on or around their 12th birthday, or sometimes on or around their 13th birthday in Reform and Conservative Judaism.
In some Christian traditions, generally Catholic and Anglican, Confirmation is the ritual by which a young person receives a Sacrament thought to bestow certain gifts of the Holy Spirit. The timing of the reception of this Sacrament serves, on a sociological level, as a sort of "rite of passage" into adulthood.
In Hispanic countries the quinceañera celebration traditionally marks a girl's 15th birthday.
Some girls and a few boys in the United States have "sweet sixteen" birthday parties.
In the United Kingdom 18th and 21st are traditional coming of age birthdays.[citation needed]
In some Asian countries, the 14th birthday is celebrated as the day one becomes a man, or a woman, in society.[citation needed]
Many Filipino girls celebrate their 18th birthdays with a cotillion and debutante ball, commonly known as a debut.[citation needed]
In India, the 12th or 13th birthday is replaced with a grand "thread ceremony." The child takes a blessed thread and wears it, symbolizing his coming of age. This ceremony is more common amongst boys in the Hindu culture.
The birthdays of historically significant people, like national heroes or founders, are often commemorated by an official holiday. Some saints are remembered by a liturgical feast (sometimes on a presumed birthday). By analogy, the Latin term Dies natalis is applied to the anniversary of an institution (such as a university).

A person's Golden or Grand Birthday, more commonly referred to as their "Lucky Birthday", "Champagne Birthday" or "Star Birthday", occurs when they turn the age of their birth day (e.g., when someone born on the 25th of the month turns 25).

[edit] Name days
In some Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox countries such as France, Russia, Bulgaria, Hungary, or Greece, it is common to have a 'name day'/'Saint's day'. This is celebrated in much the same way as a birthday, but is held on the official day of a saint with the same Christian name as the birthday person; the difference being that one may look up a person's name day in a calendar, or easily remember common name days (for example, John or Mary); however in pious traditions, the two were often made to concur by giving a newborn the name of a saint celebrated on its birthday, or even the name of a feast, for example, Noel or Pascal (French for Christmas and "of Easter").

[edit] Alternative birthdays
People born on February 29, which occurs only during leap years, often celebrate their birthday in other years on February 28, or March 1 (the first day they have, measured in whole years, a new age). .

In school, a half-birthday or other unbirthday is sometimes celebrated for those whose birthdays do not fall on a school day (especially for birthdays falling during holiday and vacation periods).

My nephew's first birthday is coming up. I have no kids so I have no idea what kids want. I am also unfortunately not very close to my sister so I can't simply ask what would be a good gift and I also have no idea what toys, etc. they already have. So I'm deferring to Yahoo Answers. What is a good gift idea for a baby's first birthday? One that preferably most parents wouldn't already have? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Clothes, Clothes gift cards, toys, toys r us gift card, books that are age appropriate for the parents to read to the baby, diapers, wipes. those are all useful things i'd appreciate. also maybe shoes or sandals. Ask for sizes of course

My mom's birthday is on March 29th and I have no idea what gifts should I get her. She is a garden lover but I already got her a set of garden tools on her last birthday. Any gifts ideas?

Answer
A little basket full of different seeds for her to plant and grow. Maybe even a flower ready to be transfered into the ground. Or think of something else she likes when she can't garden. Cooking? Cleaning? Baking? Art? Possiblities are endless when it's the woman you've known since day one (:

60th Birthday Gift for the Mom who has everything?

Christine

My mom's 60th birthday gift is coming up and all the kids are pooling together about $800-$1000 to get her a really nice gift. The problem is the woman has everything!!! Any ideas on a unique and meaningful gift we could give to her on her birthday? Thanks!

Answer
A 60th birthday is a milestone and you guys have a good budget to work with.

Is there a show in another city that she might like to? Perhaps a weekend away for her and someone else to see the show (tickets included).

Or is there something she has always wanted to do? For example learn to ballroom dance? Lessons might be an idea...

There is a company called Red Balloon Days in Australia that have some fantastic experience based gifts that might help you with some other ideas about what you could do for your Mother closer to where you are.

For a milestone birthday for my now husband, I arranged a limousine to pick him up with his favourite cold beers and had him dropped to the harbour where we took a harbour cruise together before dinner with friends. He loved it and will always remember it because it was an experience.

Good luck!
