Megan.

within one week in december it will be my boyfriend's birthday, christmas, and our eleven months. i need some ideas on what to get him. something sweet and romantic. i'm 14 and he's 15 right now. i've gotten him a picture frame with our pictures in it. but i want it to be special this time<3 and more than one thing. thanks:]

Answer
In my opinion, you should get him something personally (like,, do you have anything, like an inside joke between you guys? or something you talk about often?) this would be really sweet! (= oohh, and MAKE your card..
also, if you dont like those ideas.. here's some more..

Small you say ?

chocolates (many people think its only a girl thing, but hell no, guys like chocolates just as much as the next girl)
Gadgets? lots in Argos..
dvd's? get really cheap ones in tesco's (lots of funny action ones and stuff)
i'd say cd's but, these cost a bit more (and you can never be to sure if they'll like the chosen music)
a funky mug with loads of hot chocolate stuff in it (everyone likes these)
sweets!

and if you want to go bigger
T-shirts
hoodies
belts
hats
any other male accessories
cd's

although personally, i find the best gifts for guys (are lots of little things, so they're bound to like it)

CAUTION = whatever you do, DONT buy him a pen!

hope this helped (=

Ideas for birthday gifts for my special needs child?

My little girl is about to turn 2 years old. She is special need with cerebral palsy and is hemiplegic, only uses left side of body with little coordination. She is already getting a wagon with the flip up seat and I am making a harness for her to be able to sit in it. What are some other fun toys she can enjoy despite her disabilities?

Answer
Maybe a swing but not a normal swing, the ones with the more supportive seats (aimed at 1-3 year olds), sold in toys r us smyths and argos, and a shallow paddling pool or ball pit. Smyths is a good shop to look around in because it has a lot of outdoor toys for babies and toddlers so she can take part in activities that other children her age wouldx

What kind of birthday gift should I get for a small buisnesss owner?

Becca W.

My sister is a small business owner and her birthday is in a few weeks. She just started her own cake and cupcake business and i wanted to give her a present that would be useful towards being successful. I was think about getting a small Business advice book...but i want something to add to that. Small Business owners have any ideas? Or anyone else have any ideas???

Answer
Her business will need business to stay in business and to grow. Maybe buy some beautiful paper and envelopes. Have a nice announcement printed on the paper about her business. Offer to hand deliver to local businesses to entice people to try her business. The holidays are coming - Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and her product could make good company gifts.

He will be turning 69 tomorrow, and I have no idea what to buy him. He is the type if he wants it he will go out and buy it himself. He cant go out to eat because he has some stomach issues he can only eat certain things.many ideas?

Answer
A small coffee table book of Norman Rockwell paintings. These used to appear on the covers of The Saturday Evening Post. They were little slices of American life, such as first day of school, first haircut, boy & girl teens sharing a malt in a malt shop, & all kinds of cutesy stuff. I found a whole little book of them at Barnes & Noble's one year & gave it to my mother for Christmas.
If he's a part of a particular heritage, such as Irish, can look for Irish toasts or whatever would be appropriate for your family & ethnic heritage.
Check your local bookstore for other ideas from their sale tables. Might also be bookmarks, especially the magnetized ones that fit over the page & won't fall out.
Books of comic strips such as Far Side or Bizarro. Maybe you'll think of what his favorite is.
Something active like a Frisbee. If he has a dog, look for a soft one labeled that it's for dogs.
LED flashlight or a flashlight with windup charger that also charges a cell phone.
Jigsaw puzzle.
If he likes to fish, maybe a new fishing fly.
Swiss Army Knifte--I've noticed a couple of times that guys will go out of their way to find one when it's up to them to buy a gift. So, I assume they just love all those little scissors & bottle openers, etc. that are tucked into the sides of the Swiss Army Knife.
Brimmed sun hat or a new baseball cap.
Refillable water bottle that's BPF-free.
Insulated coffee mug for the car.
Oversize bath towel & matching washcloths.
Beach towel.
Decorative polished stone paperweight from a gift shop, hobby shop, or home furnishings store.
If he's a coffee drinker, strike up a conversation about types of coffee. If he mentions something special, then get him that. (Also find out if he grinds his own or if you should get some that's already ground.
A magazine of variety puzzles. This might be if you were putting together a little box of fun things. Could include a package of Papermate Sharpwriter pencils, some good erasers, & a new ruler. Could put together a little back-to-school pencil box that would be suitable for a senior citizen puzzle worker or someone who takes notes on financial stuff. (Good to get while these things are on special sales.) He might think this was really cute & be honored, thinking back to the days when he, too, got new school supplies. Could include a large print crossword dictionary. You might notice whether he works any puzzles in his newspaper & if he likes them at all.

I know it's a little tricky to find things that a senior would want. Just be glad that he can afford to get himself what he needs & wants. Then get him some token gift, along with the gift of time spent sharing his b-day with him. Could also find out if he needs help on any project around the house or yard. Now that would be a really valuable gift as well as sharing time together.

Volunteer/help activities for an 8 year old to do?

huvik

I taught my brother to grow up caring about others over himself.
Now he is really into it! He loves to donate his old stuff, gave his birthday money away for Haiti donation, now wants to volunteer.
The only problem is, places like shelters and such have age limits.

Can you think of anything proactive that a child could do in the community? So far, we've only been sending cards to children in bad situations.

Any ideas would be great :)

Answer
Some things I've done with my kids...

-Visit a senior citizen's home.

Chat with the residents, play cards, play a musical instrument, or simply keep residents company.

Bring a treat such as brownies (Check with the home's dietician first, because many of the elderly have dietary restrictions) or a simple gift such as homemade pine sachets or pictures.

-Bake something such as muffins for a local food pantry. Again, check with the pantry before going ahead.

-Run a drive for a charity among his friends. Some drive ideas...

Collect items for an animal shelter. This can work particularly well as many shelters need old towels for use as bedding, which means donors can contribute something that doesn't cost anything.

Run a canned food drive for a food pantry.

Collect coats for homeless children, uniforms for kids who can't play sports without them, or books for kids in shelters.

-Write to soldiers in Iraq. There are a number of veteran's organizations that facilitate this.

-Hold a lemonade stand, with the proceeds going toward the charity of his choice. It can be especially effective to ask for a donation for the lemonade instead of determining a set price. People tend to donate more than they would pay.

-Beautify the community by planting bulbs at someplace like the local senior center. Best done in the fall.

Many of these activities are more fun if done with a friend so your brother might want to ask his friends if they'd like to participate with him.

It sounds like you've done a great job with your little brother (and that someone did a great job with you :-) ). Congratulations and good luck!

It's her 21st birthday. She doesn't drink and she's married. Do you have any ideas for a gift? I'll take anything at this point, I'm clueless!

Answer
If she likes to be pampered a bit, I'd say get some candles and bath salts/ bubble bath, etc. Or you two go out and have a girls day/night of shopping, salon visit, etc.
If you're not sure what to do- maybe a gift certificate to her and her husband's favorite place to eat at in the town you live in.
Sorry I can't think of anything else, because I'm not sure if you want to do something with her, or a present she can enjoy with her husband. - Hope that does give you an idea though and she has a great birthday. :)

Q. My friend, age 13, forgot that her sister's 20th birthday was today and doesn't have a present to give her. I need some easy homemade gift ideas for her to make.

Answer
A picture frame:
Cut out words from a magazine, and deco pauge (no idea how to spell it) onto the frame.

This would be easier if we knew what items she had available to help make a gift. A hot glue gun? What?

What do you get them and how much you spend on daycare kids for their birthdays and christmas?

snickers

I have just opened up my daycare and I want to know what to get daycare kids as gifts. How much money should one daycare provider spend on a child for their birthday or christmas gift. Any ideas would be great thanks,

Answer
I am a daycare provider ans I usually spend about $10.00 for birthdays and Christmas. Sometimes less if it's something the child will really like. I also spend about that much on the child's parents. Last year I took some really great pictures of the kids and then bought pretty frames and gave that to the parents....they love it.
Anyway, don't forget that a certain amount (I think up to like $20) is tax deductible for gifts given to your clients.

For my little cousin's 1st birthday, I bought her a toddler pool and a bathing-suit to go with it. Actually something usable (not just another toy) and ended up being Multi purpose. The Mom ended up blowing it up and putting it in her playroom she LOVED crawling in and out of it and playing with her babies in it. : )

My son just turned 1 about a week ago. We knew that he was going to be beyond spoiled by all our family and friends so we didn't go overboard. We bought him a cute little pair of Adidas running shoes, a bedtime book and some Fisher Price Little People animals.

Other Christmas present ideas for family?

pupluver97

Luckily I know what I am getting for my grandmother for Christmas (a tie blanket that i made), but the others are tough. My first sister, brother, mom, and best friend are the hardest.

My sister is graduating from college in like a week so I need help with that too. For her, I was thinking that I would buy a sweet sister photo frame that I found on Amazon and put a picture of us two in it and give it to her. I don't know if that should be her graduation present or Christmas present but either way I need to buy it soon for it to get here in time. For her birthday a couple months ago, I made her a card and wrote a letter that made her cry (she is really emotional). I want he to know how much I care about her, but I donât want to make her cry again. I want ALL of my Christmas presents to be meaningful, and I am willing to spend some money but I am only a 15 year old girl and donât have a ton. My sister is 23 and she means to world to me.

My other sister is older and is married with a two year old girl and four year old boy (I love those kids sooooo much!) but I am not sure if I will buy her anything for reasons I would rather not post. I love her, but I don't know if I can find a real meaningful gift for her because of some stupid and selfish things she has done, but if you have any ideas, please be my guest! (NO GIFTCARDS WHAT-SO-EVER!)

I know what my parents are getting me for Christmas (oops) and i kind of feel bad about it. I really want it, but I donât know what to give back. I am the youngest, so i hate to admit it but i am kind of spoiled. I feel like my parents spend more than is necessary on me and i really want to show my appreciation to them My mom loves aggot hunting and rocks and fossils and all of that stuff. (We want to go to Madagascar one day lol) My mom says that she wants a rock cutter or polisher or tumbler or something but they are expensive so I might be able to split it with my sister but she is pretty poor with her boyfriend since they are only just graduating from college, and my mom may have already bought herself a rock tumbler or is planning to from the Christmas money she already got. I donât know but i want to find something meaningful and although that is something I know she really wants, it is not something I would usually buy especialy since I have virtually no way of getting it without her knowing unless I found the perfect thing and managed to get my sisterâs help.

My dad, his birthday is only in a little over a week so i am stuck. I might just make him a cake since he thinks everyone will forget about his birthday since it is sooo close to my sisterâs graduation, but for Christmas, I donât know. I love my dad but we have an odd, unbalanced relationship sort of like with my other sister. Maybe I will just give him a card with a meaningful saying or something. My dad rarely shows real emotion because of the way he grew up, but I wish I could make him. I feel that I owe my daddy in a way.

My brother is probably the toughest of all. He is 21, loves hunting and hanging out with friends. I really canât think of anything meaningful for his Christmas present.. He will be in Germany with one of friends for Christmas this year, but that doesnât mean that I donât want to get him anything. I wish that i had a better relationship with my brother and could spend more time with him, but he is never around. I would love to go skiing with him or something this winter, but I donât know if we will get the chance. He wais we could go last year but never did. We went togeather when I was in 7th and 8th grade with school and that was really the last time I got to spend a lot of time with him. His stuff lives at home, but he lives with his friends closer to his school. I am usually home alone with my parents since all of my siblings have pretty much moved out. He is one of those guys that has a lot of energy but, thankfully, is using it in a productive way by shooting deer and become a cop to help society's fight against crime. I want my brother to know how much I do love him and miss him. I get a hug from him every chance that i get, but it just does not feel like enough. My brother is crazy, but I love him and miss him, and just want a present that will show it in one way or another.

Last but not least, my best friend. Because of drama in our school, we have become better friends than ever this year. Maybe I should just give her a gift card (she is the only exception) but I donât know if that would even be good enough. It feels incomplete on my part. I donât know. For reasons unspoken, she is tough to buy for. I do want to give her something meaningful, but I really donât know what.

I am sorry that this is so long, but I really want this to be a special Christmas.

For your dad... Make him a batch of fudge and add a letter from you about how you feel about him. You can even say how you both are so different, yet you love him so deeply and you are glad he is your dad.

Fantasy Fudge
Yes, this is the original Fantasy Fudge recipe from the back of the Kraft Marshmallow Creme jar. We'll never know why they changed the recipe on us, but we've preserved the recipe for you right here.

3 cups sugar
3/4 cup margarine
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 12-oz. (340 g) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 7-oz. (198 g) jar Kraft Marshmallow creme
1 cup chopped nuts
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Traditional method:
Combine sugar, margarine and milk in heavy 2-1/2 quart saucepan; bring to full rolling bail, stirring constantly. Continue boiling 5 minutes over medium heat, stirring. Remove from heat, stir in chocolate till melted. Add marshmallow creme, nuts & vanilla; beat until blended. Pour into greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Let cool and cut into 1-inch squares.

Microwave method:
Microwave margarine in 4-quart microwave-safe bowl on HIGH (100%) 1 minute or until melted. Add sugar and milk; mix well. Microwave on HIGH 5 minutes or until mixture begins to boil, stirring after 3 minutes. Mix well; scrape bowl. Continue microwaving on HIGH 5-1/2 minutes; stir after 3 minutes. Stir in chips until melted. Add remaining ingredients; mix well. Pour into greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Cool at room temperature; cut into squares. Makes 3 pounds.

Note: Can be made in a smaller pan for thicker squares (yield will be reduced).

Servings: 117

Inexpensive birthday party gift ideas for 7 year old boy?

Sheila

Although we (I have twin boys) appreciate being invited to a classmate's birthday party, seems we get invited to many. It gets expensive and hard to even come up with an affordable gift idea. Not to be ungrateful to be included, but it also seems the kids who have the large, elaborate, invite everyone, parties are also kids who already have anything and everything they want, so any gift they might want or would be impressed by would be more than we could spend (bakugan, redakai, etc.) Ideas?

Answer
The past few birthday parties we have gone to I have gotten the presents from the dollar store. The kids don't know the difference and alot of times they like the cheaper gifts. Crayons, coloring books, bouncy balls, the things you put in water and they get bigger.

Q. Ok so my husband is in the marine corps and he is deployed right now (in Kuwait). His birthday is next month and I have NO idea what to get him. I want to get him something that he can actually use while he is there... He already has a PSP and an X-box and all that... He has tons of books, etc. Anyways... any suggestions will help. Thanks :]

Answer
You could send him a new game for PSP or xbox.
Or you could make a mini album of an "imaginary birthday date/party." Take pictures of everything he would see if he were here for his birthday. For example: Take a picture of you dressed up holding his birthday cake. Also take different snapshots of everywhere you would go if he were with you. Like a picture of you getting in the car, dressed up for a birthday dinner date or a picture of you sitting at a table of where you would be eating a birthday dinner with him. Different pictures of family members eating his birthday cake. Or a picture of the birthday dinner you would have cooked for him, candles and all. A picture of you holding the gift you are mailing him. And at the end of the album maybe you blowing him a kiss.

Cruise destination for a ladies only birthday cruise?

Misty

My friend and I are planning a special birthday gift for our 30th birthday and we are wanting to take a cruise. We have 3 years to save up and we are both wanting a nice tropical experience but we're unsure exactly where to go. I've never been anywhere tropic and she's never been outside of the our home state. We are getting our passports so it can be ANYWHERE. Any ideas as to the perfect destination? We will be 30, both married with kids, its our special gift to eachother. Please put why you believe your answer is the best choice. Thanks.

Answer
Just an idea (and it costs about the same):

Consider a week at an all-inclusive resort** in Mexico on the Yucatan peninsula. [the Mayan Riviera, Cancun down to Tulum.] You can lay around in the sun and drink all day*, do casual activities, go swimming, etc; or take tours and see the famous sights and do some adventurous activities.

Cruising is very nice, but 3/4 of the time you are on the boat, and then you get to a port, get off, look around, maybe do a little something (which is not much unless you can afford the expensive activities) and then you get back on the boat. An "all-inclusive" is like a cruise ship, except on land, and you have lots of time to experience the area, and enjoy the experience.

{Some people swear by the all-inclusives on the Pacific side. Each has its own tropical experience, so you need to get info and make a choice.} There is also Hawaii !!!

** you can pick one to suit whatever style you want; including no kids, "relaxed" dress code on the beach, one that has on campus restaurants that appeal to you, a quiet place, a party place,,,,,

*included in the price, unlike on a cruise ship

60th Birthday Gift for the Mom who has everything?

Christine

My mom's 60th birthday gift is coming up and all the kids are pooling together about $800-$1000 to get her a really nice gift. The problem is the woman has everything!!! Any ideas on a unique and meaningful gift we could give to her on her birthday? Thanks!

Answer
A 60th birthday is a milestone and you guys have a good budget to work with.

Is there a show in another city that she might like to? Perhaps a weekend away for her and someone else to see the show (tickets included).

Or is there something she has always wanted to do? For example learn to ballroom dance? Lessons might be an idea...

There is a company called Red Balloon Days in Australia that have some fantastic experience based gifts that might help you with some other ideas about what you could do for your Mother closer to where you are.

For a milestone birthday for my now husband, I arranged a limousine to pick him up with his favourite cold beers and had him dropped to the harbour where we took a harbour cruise together before dinner with friends. He loved it and will always remember it because it was an experience.

Good luck!

Ok, so, I'm going to be turning 13 at the end of May. I know that it's a while away, but I want to start planning. I don't want to do what I always do, which consist of sleepovers, bowling, ect. Also, I do not have a pool if that's what you are thinking. I don't really enjoy things like hair and nails, and also, I want it to be a boy girl party.

Please help me think of something!!!!!!!

Thankyou.
:)

Answer
You're not supposed to be on here until you are actually 13, you know. Read the Community Guidelines if you think I'm wrong. We are all asked to abide by them, including you.

Anyway, try a volunteer party if you want something really different. Phone around and find an agency that needs help (animal shelter, church project, senior citizens' facility, public library, etc) then have your party be a volunteer day. All your friends meet at your house, go together, work together, and come back to your house for food and gifts and things. It's really a lot of fun.

Help!! My wife is blaming me for all of our problems and has treated me poorly for years...?

Aaron C

Ok, here's the situation. I love my wife and our children (ages 6 and 3), but she's really pushing me over the edge. I am constantly blamed for our problems and I don't really know what to do anymore. We've been married for over 7 years and have been together for over 10 yrs. Our first year together was pretty good, but then things started going south quickly. She started giving me ultimatums (for example, "if we're not engaged by the time I graduate college, I can't be with you"), starting fights about every little thing nearly every night after she finished work, etc. I was not your typical jerk guy who flirted with other girls, partied a lot, or anything like that. She literally had no reason to be mad at me, yet she always was. Long story short, she got pregnant about 2 and 1/2 years into our relationship, we got married, and my life's been very difficult ever since. I know it's my fault for not ending the relationship sooner, but for some unknown reason I'm deeply in love with this woman. Now we have 2 kids and I can't imagine my life without them every day.

Fast forward to 2010, and we have a ton of issues. We got in another HUGE fight last night over some very insignificant things:

A) She was mad because I stayed in the car while she went into Hallmark to buy her friend a birthday gift. I knew she was only going to be 5 minutes or so, because we were on our way to a restaurant where we had reservations. I had no desire to go into Hallmark, so I told her I would just stay in the car. She responded with her typical "whatever" comment and slammed the door. She brought this up last night and said she believes I don't want to be seen in public with her, which is SO not true. I don't even know where she got that idea.

B) We were trying to decide which bar we would visit after dinner. There's a specific bar where all my old buddies for high school hang out (the ones who never did anything with their lives), and I told her I wanted to avoid that one. I cracked a joke about "not wanting to run into any high school ex girlfriends tonight" and she became livid. She brought this up last night, too. I told her it was a joke and she really shouldn't be so insecure, especially since we graduated from HS over 10 years ago.

C) I have bought my wife flowers on numerous occasions throughout our relationship. I usually go by the store and pick them up myself on my way home from work. I try to do this every few months. One time, I ordered flowers for her on Mother's Day and had them delivered to her job. They apparently didn't look as good as they did in the online photo, and she threw a bloody fit. I will never forget that day. Last night, she brought up the fact that I don't order her flowers from florists and have them delivered, and I reminded her exactly why I don't do that. Again, she got really angry and basically said I don't buy her flowers enough, and when I do, they're not from an expensive enough place.

She says I don't show her enough affection, but it's really hard when I feel like I'm mistreated most of the time. I know it's a vicious cycle and we're both at fault for a number of things, but I don't know how to make it stop. We've been to marriage counseling and that didn't work... she actually still holds a grudge against our counselor because she felt like she was being "picked on" the whole time and she wouldn't accept the fact that she's to blame for most of this. I'm not an aggressive type of person or an angry, high-strung person at all. Most of my friends and family agree that I'm just a nice, quiet guy who doesn't get upset or stressed easily, but my wife brings out the worst in me....

Is there anyone out there in a similar situation that can offer some advice?? I really don't want to leave my wife and kids, but it's getting to the point where I'm becoming very depressed and feeling hopeless.

Answer
You don't want to leave your wife or kids, but can't you see you need to do something drastic in order to force her to make a change. Thus far she has ignored the fact that she is mistreating you. My heart goes out to you. She may be a good woman but is caught up in being critical and demanding as a way to et what she wants from you. She needs to get back on the right path and this will only happen when she gets a wake up call. Why not talk to her and tell her how you feel. Then tell her if she is not willing to work with you to change that you are leaving. This does not necessarily mean a divorce, it means you are sending a message to her that you will no longer put up with being mistreated. So far you have stayed and taken it. She feels no need to change as you have shown her you will tolerate this. Suggest counselling with another counselor. If she refuses then it is time to man up and stop allowing her to step all over you. Nice guys like you are so often taken for granted that it kills me to see a well intended woman do all the things to make his life miserable and she ends up losing him. I sure wish you all the best.

Dharanidha

Hello there,

Thanks a lot for taking time to read this.

When is the Birthday?
4 days from today

What are my current plans for the birthday?
Currently I am planning for a quick lunch other than greeting card and flowers. But this is the usual every year.

The constraints being:
1) we have a 2 month young baby (first kid) so wifey prefers not to be out of home for more than an hour or two (so that she can feed the baby when required at home)
2) generally I do not like the idea of beauty packages like manicure/pedicure/et al. But she does love it!

Warm Regards,
Dharanidhar

Answer
First get a babysitter, then go to a nice dinner, go home to give baby a feeding, head back out for a movie & then back home & enjoy the rest of the night with eachother's company - a good, old-fashioned date for the birthday girl & new parents, but allowing time for the precious baby to be feed....good luck & enjoy....

Any ideas for my homemade I.O.U gift certificates for 18 year old girl? (Please read!)?

Poppy

I am going to make some homemade 'I.O.U' gift certificates for my younger sister, with things written on them such as 'day at the cinema' and '1 batch of cookies' so whenever she wants to she can hand me 1 to 'redeem' it. It is part of her birthday gift.

I really need lots more ideas other than the cinema and a batch of cookies, the more ideas the better! Please help me, I am stuck for ideas!

Thank you very much, I'll pick a best answer :o)

Answer
Well I'm not sure what exactly you're looking for so here are a couple of ideas

1. Day at the Spa: You give her a massage, pedi and mani or what ever you're able to do. Maybe a homemade natural facial?
2. Assistant for the Day: You're pretty much her slave for the day, so you can do her laundry, etc.
3. Get out of Jail Free Card: She can use it whenever she gets you really upset.
4. Breakfast in Bed
5. Chores: You do whichever chore she has to do
6. One home cooked dinner with dessert
7. One Saturday night on the town with Free chauffeur service
8. Half an Hour of relaxing foot massage after a particularly grueling day
9. A Luxurious bubble bath
10. One carwash with a promise to fill up the gas tank - Totally Free
11. One free offer of returning your library books/DVDs.
12. A night of playing your favorite game.
13. One quick trip to the store when you are out of aspirin. Or midol. Or tampons.
14. Get the blame for something she did
15. Side with her when she's completely wrong and fight her battle

If you want you should also check out some wife coupon ideas online and edit it to suit your relationship.

Urgent! What should I get for my parents?

Rhi

My parents are divorced and their birthdays are one day after the other (April 13 and 14).
I was away for the past week so I've left everything really late!
I have no idea what to get them now.
My dad's turning 43 and my mom 48, if that helps.
I've gotten my dad cuff links&books and my mom earrings&bags for as long as I remember, so I want to get them something else this time... I'm really busy over the weekend so I can't make anything either, it'll just be sloppy.
What should I do?
Also, I'm 14 and an only child. And I don't have access to credit cards. Sooo.
Also, I'm 14 and an only child. And I don't have access to credit cards. And I live in Shanghai, where there's one Best Buy with not many things and no hallmark stores.

Answer
Well, my dad gets his annual mug, this year it was the Simpson's (He loves Homer). Last year, I went to Edinburgh dungeons so that was his mug. But shopping for your dad is not too hard. Buy him things to remember you when he uses them: mugs, aftershave, DVDs (my dad loves House, the West Wing etc).

Mum's are easy too, bags, clothes, jewelery, perfume, make up, goft cards, shoes. Or if you wanna buy her something really special, buy two tickets for a day in the spa, she can either take a mate, or take you. Or rock-climbing, or something memorable. Last year I just bought a picture frame and decorated it, and put her fav picture inside that she keeps on her dressing table. You can cut out people or places or things from other pics or magazine, or get out the glitter and glue and have an arts and crafts session, get a friend to help you and you can use the internet or magazines if you run out of inspiration. If you don't have the time though, there are loads of beautiful frames you could buy and put a pic in. Or for their birthday, take you and your sibs with each parent and get a professional photo done, then put it in the frame. Just something with sentimental value. And it won't seem soppy, it will just look like you made an effort and you care (and not left it until the last minute) :-P

Oh, I just had an idea! (got a bit excited there :-P ) Why don't you check out http://www.thebodyshop.co.uk/_en/_gb/index.aspx
That's where I buy lots of presents for my mum. They have lots of gift ideas (most of which are not to expensive) or you can mix and match yourself and buy one of their gift bags. It is all about taking care of yourself and keeping you as healthy and young-looking as you can.

Or you take your mum out for dinner on her b-day and your dad out for dinner on his, if you have any brothers or sisters then take them as well to both of them.

Hope this helps
xxx

Answer
Well, see what her interests are. Like, if she likes Barbie, giver her something about Barbie. If she likes Bratz or High School musical, give her something based on that. If she likes to write, give her one of those automatic journals that has a Barbie, Bratz, or whatever she likes as the theme. If you don't think that would work you should giver her one of those small purses and fill them in with a bunch of cute stuff she'd use. Like a small doggy notepad with a flower pen, hair ties, bracelets, stuff like that. Give her something special like that. Stay away from giving her money lol.

I am doing a project in health called baby cost analysis. We are trying to find out how much it costs to take care of a child for the first year of life. I need a few ideas of what to put in. (like what foods, how many diapers you use, how much you spend on clothes that year, what furniture you buy, etc.) If you could help me out I would really appreciate it! Thank you!

Answer
Well i'd have to think about that actually! i have 4 kids, so ill just give you a run down of the starter supplies i got and then how much food, diapers and clothes i bought in ONE months time for just ONE child.

starter stuff-

12 oneses- pack of 4 cost $8
12 pack of socks- $4
12 jumpers 3 pack of jumpers-$8-$12
12 footless sleepers, 3 pack of footless sleepers- $8
4 blankets- $10 a piece
12 recieving blankets i used as burp clothes, 4 pack-$8-$10
baby nail clippers-$2
snot getter (that blue thing you suck snot out of noses with)-$1
Crib-$400
dresser-$250
change table-$250
towels-$10 for nice ones, $3 for regular towels (which i prefer)
baby hangers- 6 pack-$4
baby tub (if wanted)-$12-15
Stroller-$150-$350
portable travel crib-$150-$250
Carseat-$60-200, plus a forward facing seat at age 2 $100-$300, and finally a booster chair for older child, around $40-$80

The occasional purchases-
baby tylenol-$10
baby motrin-$10
mylicon-$10
baby lotion-$5
and other medications- orajel, teething tabs, teething rings, little noses, little tummies (and all medications w/the brand name Little _fill in the blank_)- ranging in price from $2-$10
toys during age appropriate times- anywhere from $5 to $40
Clothing purchased every other month or every 4 months during growth spurts-$150-$300

monthly purchases-
Diapers- 4-6 packs of diapers per month- $10-$15 a piece
Baby shampoo-$5 a bottle
Baby wash-$5 a bottle
Baby food- usually 50-60 cents per jar, when buying around 12-14 jars twice a month
baby cereal-$2-4 per box
baby juices-$5 for a 4 pack
baby snacks-$2-4 per box

Perscription medications when sick-
yearly around $50-$150

and omg there's just so much more when you consider trips needing extra things like smaller travel strollers, diaper bags, special snacks that are travel size or packaged better for travel, shoes when they start walking and it's cold (mine dont wear shoes in the summer unless we are at the park), replacement toys that get lost, replacement socks that get eaten in the dryer, LOL, birthday gifts, holidays, etc.
I don't even want to think about how much i've spent on my 4 children over the last 13 yrs! i just might pass out!

oh btw- i didn't include formula which might be around $150-$200 per month, because i breast fed mine...so should i have included my own nursing clothes? oh well.

I need help with the wording of birthday invitation for my moms 50th?

Cj T

My mom has had a hard year May of 2008 my brother passed away. How do i word the invite so that it will be an upbeat party. I want to make sure that no one brings any over the hill or RIP gifts/gag gifts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
What a wonderful idea, to have a birthday party for your Mom! What a great child you must be!

If your guests all know that your mother lost a son (and you a brother--my heart goes out to you for your loss) then I think people will be respectful in general. Regarding jokes about her age? Just tell people in your invitation that you're having a birthday party for your mom--no need to bring the '50' up. Say that your family wants to celebrate your love for your great mom with a birthday party this year.

....and don't worry yourself if someone does make a wisecrack about her age. There's only so much you can control, and your mother will be able to handle it just fine no matter what. By giving your mother a big party, you're doing more than most adult children would do for their parent. It says, "I love you" in a big, BIG way. What a lovely act of love on your part!

Your love light is shining bright--Your mother will cherish your thoughtfulness forever.
