Okay, I heard its proper to get your bridal party gifts for thanking them but also your parents and the grooms parents. Now, I can do that no problem except for my fiancees mom. I have no idea what she wants. Everything we have gotten her just sits around collecting dust, as if she doesn't like it or something. Honestly I don't think she even really likes me? Haha, but thats besides the point.

Answer
Firstly, it seems as though the fact that you think your future mother in law doesn't like you really IS something you care about. I can empathise, as I have had a similar experience with the whole of my husband's family. I can also understand the gift thing - I have spent thousands of dollars on gifts for my MIL and, although she's graciously accepted the, she's never seemed to LOVE any of them. However, the one gift I gave her that really helped was a gift certificate for a massage (you could also do facial, manicure, etc). I don't know what your budget is, but you could get her a gift certificate for a mani/pedi for the two of you - it would be a great way for you to get to know her a bit better and everyone likes to feel pampered.

I would also add that your mother is law is about to see her "baby" get married - mothers have a really hard time with this. Write her a nice card to go with your gift, something like "I know planning this wedding has been stressful for you, and I want you to know how much your support means to me. I'm looking forward to becoming a part of your family - you deserve some "you" time, I hope you enjoy this massage" etc. Trust me, she will appreciate it and it will make you feel closer to her!

Good luck, and congratuations on your upcoming wedding!

Is it inappropriate to throw yourself a baby shower?

Ashley

Having my second child in 9 weeks.. Large family on both sides but never got a baby shower with my first child. Not doing it for the gifts just want the experience and no one has stepped forward to do it. I just moved to the state so I dont have many friends here that would do something like this.
Is it inappropriate to throw one for myself.. should I just get over the idea of having one.

Answer
Sorry, but it is inappropriate to throw yourself a shower. It makes you look like you're begging for gifts even if you aren't.

What is a good gift to give for a baby's Catholic baptism? Recently when I went to my boyfriend's Godson's baptism, the presents consisted of four rosaries, two crosses (plus a crucifix), a few bible and saint books, and at least three stuffed animals that pray. What can I get my best friend's baby for his Baptism this weekend that is not the same old cliche Baptism gift??? PLEASE HELP.

Answer
There is a store called "Things Remember" that engraves. If there is one close to you, they have great gifts, like blankets and all sorts of things. Find something you like and have it engraved with his name and the date of his Baptism.

What would be an awesome baptism gift for my new goddaughter?

Eliz

Hello, I am about to be the godmother of my cousin's third daughter. The baptism is going to be in a few months, but I want to get some ideas for a good baptism gift. I want it to be something she'll actually use, but I want it to be pretty hip (I'm 18 years old and don't want to get her something rather stuffy). Any suggestions on things traditionally Catholic but still ballin'?

Answer
Why dont you have something engraved for her at things remembered. They have so many things to choose from like frames or cases to keep rosary beads in. I have my cousins baby batism next weekend and im thinking that would definately be something they would love for Madelyn. they also have a snow globe with a baby girl or boy praying and you could engrave that...its a pretty cool place and its a very modern selection of gifts. Im sure theres a place near you if not you can place your order online.

Gift basket ideas for a first time mom in the hospital?

Absinthe

My sister is due with her first baby this week, and I'd like to send a gift basket with just for her (the baby will be getting a separate gift) for while she's at the hospital. I was thinking magazines she can read if she has a long wait and chocolates (she has a major sweet tooth), but I can't really think of what else to send. Any ideas? What would you have liked to have while in the hospital?

Answer
Well once the baby arrives, I'm sure she'll be pretty busy with the new baby. But if you're thinking about things for her while she's in labor, here are a few ideas.

Puzzle books, chapstick, one of those soothing gel packs for the eyes or forehead, some massage lotion for her spouse or labor coach to rub her feet, shoulders or back, a deck of cards or Uno game. Maybe a baby book so she can start filling it out. And one thing to throw in there is a gift card to her favorite restaurant.

I wanted to give my mom something special for christmas this year to show her how much i love her. I was thinking of buying a journal and writing a nice quote on each page. There would be one page for every day of the year and she can only read one a day. I would give it to her on christmas but should the first day start there or on new years? What do you think of this idea? Any suggestions to make it better would be awesome! Thank you! =)

Answer
That's a really sweet gift made from The heart! I think she should read her first quote on Christmas day when u give it to her...that way the following Christmas she can start a new journal from you....make it a new tradition ;-)

What to get a girl for xmas I just started dating?

ampy

Ive been dating this girl for about a month. I tried to ask for gift ideas, but she told me not to get her anything. Of course I thought that was a typical girl answer, but she said her mom raised her to value family and friends during the holidays and that she doesnt like opening gifts. I find this hard to believe...I think this is kind of a trick to see what I do. Regardless, i want to get her something...i just dont know what. Suggestions? we are late 20's

Answer
Well the best thing i think you could get her is a really nice locket that she could wear around her neck and may be a pic of you and her in it like in a shape of a heart, or necklace or bracelet. But most importantly i think you should just spend some good quality time with her. Hope i helped

What goes on in a doljanchi party?

HowJ

i have been invited to a dol.
there will be good food.
am I expected to bring the baby a present?
what is the customary thing to do?

Answer
its funny that you say theres good food. lol
its a celebration for the first birthday of a child.
wether there is good food or not if you want to share the good occasino you should go.
usually if you are close to the baby's parent you'd buy a gold ring
some people give cash in envelops...
if your young and you dont work then its okay not to buy anything.
but just keep in mind that one day you'd have a child and if your a korean you might have a don jan chi and you might invite as many people you want, if you give a nice gift, you probably get something of the same value back. wink wink

Gift ideas for mom traveling with kids?

falcios

I have a friend who is traveling overseas with her 3 kids and I would like to get her a going away gift. Any ideas as to what I should get her?
Thanks in advance.

Answer
I traveled to Korea once with my 1 year old to see a military friend. The flight was soooo long. We had a lay-over in OKC for 3 hours and then we hopped on Korean Air. That ride lasted another 17 hours (give or take). So my advice is to make her a customized gift bag (a small bag - due to carry on rules) just from you. You could include a travel pillow for her (and because she can get pillows on the plane she can even use this 5.99 pillow for one of the kids just in case they sleep with their necks drooped), sani wipes for the kids (these are about 9 bucks for 150 or more wipes) - these are essential - especially going overseas and even more so with the various viruses going around now, some aspirin for her, depending the age of the kids-teething tablets or baby bliss gripe water (hyland's tablets are the best because they calm the tummy and soothe teething pain), plenty of snacks (ie goldfish crackers), little welch's 100% apple juce bottles, the little bottles of bottled water (especially bottled water for going overseas), 3 small boxes of 5 crayons (you can buy these at any dollar store) 3 huge coloring books (I say the huge ones because the younger the child the more pages they color and the more new pages they want to color - keeps their mind off how long the flight is). Be careful not to include to many items because with 3 kids she's already going to have carry on luggage. And let me tell ya, getting kids and carry on thru checkpoints now-a-days is a mother's greatest feat. LOL (smile). I hope this helps you out some. And notice that I didn't include anything sharp or any thing that would violate faa policy. When getting gifts for airplane trips be careful to visit the airline's website to see what can be taken on board the plane and what can be carried as cargo underneath.
