I have a 16th birthday coming up and I am desperate for some ideas for a good party. I want it to be fun but also affordable. Does anyone know of anything that fits those guidlines???
Answer
well for my 16th bday i had a party of about 20 people at my house with a set theme which was fantasy masquerade. the guests all dressed up and wore masks, and my sister even did some aerial works which was super cool. All that we paid for was food, since my friends mom brought us decors as part of my bday gift.
If you have a space you can use at your house or a friends, ask the parents. Most are cool with it as long as they are near to supervise (my parents stayed upstairs except when they cooked dinner). Then you can pick a theme you like. From there planning is easy. Pick easy foods to eat/make. We had a pasta bar that had 2 different sauces and 3 different toppings since my friends are picky eaters along with salad (for my friend who cant have pasta) and chips and dip and veggie platters. also pizza can be done as is fairly cheap since the larger the order, the more discount you get. For decor it would depend on theme and space. Lights and fog are always cool to have, but if you dnt have lighting equipment you can buy colored bulbs to replace regular bulbs (they are sold at hardware stores for like $5, this is what i did) it creates a cool effect and adds a mood to the area also streamers can help or pther theme pieces, but always have table cloths whether fabric or plastic (plastic is better) since every party someone spills something
for music, i just played my ipod and friends ipods, before the party i asked a couple of friends to create playlists for dancing and we set it up to play through out the night, it saved us the money of a dj and all we did is hook them up to speakers
if you dont want to do something at home, you could have a party at a pool or park or even just go to a place for dinner thats nice with all your friends in formal dress
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
ps theme ideas include masquerade, mardi gra, popstar/rock star, circus, gothic, basic costume, set costume theme (ie pirate), formal, a party where outfits have to be made of things other than clothing (make sure you state that things must be covered!)

Answer
For a Sweet Sixteen, I would go with something girly, probably pink (unless she hates pink) such as a bathrobe from Aerie, Victoria's Secret/PINK, or Target. You can also do cute bedroom slippers. Bath and Body Works may have some of those items too.
It really depends on your price range...if you have a little more money, get her a bottle of perfume! Is there one she likes/has been talking about? I would suggest Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, Marc Jacobs Daisy, DKNY Be Delicious, or Aquolina Pink Sugar as fun, young fragrances that are light and sweet.
Does she have a lot of jewelry? A jewelry box might be a nice gift. Check at department stores, even Pottery Barn has cute ones.
You can do a pair of simple, nice, earrings from a jewelry shop (real ones, though...not like Claire's). Or consider a charm bracelet chain with a starter charm. There is the standard link but also Pandora bracelets as well.
I hope these suggestions work, good luck!
