My boyfriend's nephew is turning 1 - and I'd like to get a nice gift for him and the family. My boyfriend is setting up an education fund on the side, but we also wanted to get something fun.
If you've had kids - what do you recall as being one of the best or favorite gifts for a 1 year old?

My daughter just turned 1 this past Saturday. My mom got her a cute Radio Flyer bike that she loves! It is really small with no petals. It does cost around $40 though. Also, my mother in law got her a big bag full of toddler flatwear, bowls and plates and that was wonderful!! She loves having her own plates and bowls! If those ideas are sounding very good to you, Elmo never fails! All kids love Elmo! Good luck!!

1 year old birthday gift idea?

My son is just shy of 10 months old and my husband and I are trying to plan for his first birthday. Do any of you parents have suggestions/recommendations for first birthday gifts? This is our first child and I am totally lost in the sea of toys available. I would like to find something that might grow a bit with him as well as able to keep his interest. Thank you in advance for your ideas!

I think ride on toys are great for 1 year olds, our daughter Emily loved hers and it brought her walking on I think. Otherwise, constructive toys, lego duplo, megabocks - the big ones for that age - these can be educational and encourage imaginitive play.
I wouldn't bother with cuddly toys, our little girl ignores all hers, and all her dolls - she's four now and lego, drawing and painting. Books are always good I think. If you are after something big then one of the wooden trainsets aimed at toddlers would go down well I'm sure - Emily loves hers!
