Here is how to decorate:
- Tiki torches
Tiki torches are synonymous with a Hawaiian themed party. The torches can be used to line walkways or an outdoor party area for luaus in warm summer moths. If the luau is being held indoors, tiki torches can still be propped up against the wall as long as they remain unlit.
Or, opt for pretty bamboo shaped candles that evoke the same tropical Hawaiian feel while offering a warm glow. Either way, scatter plenty of tea light candles throughout the party area to create soft lighting throughout the luau.
- Tribal Masks
Large wooden tribal masks help add an authentic feel to a Hawaiian themed party. Temporarily store paintings in a closet and replace them with masks for the evening of the party. Many party stores sell tribal masks in their party decorations aisle.
A more cost-effective alternative that still sets the luau mood is to buy a yard of fabric with tribal masks printed on it. Staple the fabric over a square of cardboard and place it in a frame for the party.
- Palm Trees, Bamboo Sticks and Tropical Flowers
If you happen to have small potted palm trees, arrange them around the party area. You can even bring them inside for the night to create a lush tropical Hawaiian scene in your home.
Colorful tropical flowers make eye-popping party centerpieces. Orchids and birds of paradise are ideal choices to compliment the Hawaii theme.
Bamboo sticks look great gathered in a tall pot. Place the pot with bamboo sticks next to the luau buffet table to add a tall visual element to the party scene.
- Leis & Flip flops for Guests
Welcome the luau guests into your home by inviting them to kick of their shoes and relax. Fill a bucket or box near the front door with economical pairs of rubber flip flops in various sizes. As guests arrive, ask them to replace their shoes with a pair of comfy flip flops, and let them know that they can take the pair they choose home as a party favor.
Guests will love the gesture, and the removal of shoes also nods to the Japanese tradition that many Hawaiians follow. After your party guests have donned their colorful new flip flops, hand them a lei to wear throughout the luau as well.

Nicole

Answer
It really just depends what they are into. Here are a few ideas that my 5 yr. old niece has liked:
1. big arts/crafts sets (like make your own jewelry, stepping stone, painting, etc.)
2. outside toys if it's warm where they live- balls, jumpropes, tennis raquets, etc.
3. model kits for the boy if he likes building (cars, dinosaurs, radios, etc.)
4. crystal growing kits
5. educational video games like Leap Frog's Leapster (those are huge hits but pricier!)
6. bikes
7. train set for the boy (Thomas the Train is huge)
8. kids table w/chairs for them to sit at
9. kids little sofa/chairs that fold out for sitting & playing
10. a big kids kitchen set w/pretend kitchen
11. a large dollhouse
12. electronic reading systems like Tag/Leap Frog
13. Fisher Price's Cool School computer
14. computer games
this is a small list but hopefully it will spark some ideas for you! not sure about the balloon delivery- maybe try a local flower shop?
