They're my neice and nephew... and heading for college soon. I am tired of giving gift certificates, and would like something meaningful for this landmark birthday. They've been a bit spoiled, and have most everything you can ask for...(currently they're on vacation in the Caribbean!) Any ideas? 18-year-olds... what would be meaningful for you?
Answer
Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:
Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you, they and family and friends would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!
The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.
Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.
Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

Geek Girl Birthday Gift?
HandsomeDa
So, I've procrastinated a bit much... And I need suggestions for easy gift ideas for my GF.
She works for a small company related to the games industry, and has a college degree.
She doesn't actually play too many games outside of work, because it's too much like work for her. Most of our free time is spent together, so I don't want to get her anything that's going to require her undivided attention, such as a book, etc(Unless it's some kind of novelty or 'coffee table book').
I've ordered part of her gift online, though I'm truthfully a bit nervous about whether it's going to arrive on time, so I'm looking for something I can get from a local retailer without breaking the bank, rather than online.
Suggestions?
So, I should clarify, since most of the answers are obviously coming from two entirely different understandings.
'Geek' is a widely embraced word now. It's not a bad thing, it's just like being a musician, a goth, an athlete, or an artist. It simply 'is'.
That said, I'm trying to get something unique, and frankly none of these answers fit the bill. Her birthday is just a few days after Valentine's day. She's getting plenty of flowers and hearts etc that day, I don't want her birthday to feel redundant, so I need something 'DIFFERENT'.
Thoughts?

Ha-ha, way to call ur gf a geek! XD
What you should get her if you're so unsure is a flowers (like the other answer) and a love note. Or poem. Express how you feel about her and stuff. Girls like us (geeks) die for that kind of stuff.
Good luck!
