birthday gift ideas ehow image
Q. Please give me romantic gift ideas. Thank you so much.
Answer
The man in your life who's having a 50th birthday can be difficult to choose a good present for. Guys turning 50 years old are younger than Baby Boomers and older than Generation X--they're not young and they're not old. So what do you give them as a present for this special occasion marking a half century of living? While there's no one perfect gift for all 50-year-old men, here are some tips for how to brainstorm ideas for gifting guys approaching the big five-oh.

How to throw a birthday party for your friend?
sylvanian
My friend Ciara turned 13 last week and she didn't have a birthday party because her parents couldn't afford it. A group of us are going to get together and organise a birthday party for her, but (1) we have no ideas and (2) it has to be affordable. Does anyone have any ideas as to what we can do?
Answer
Well, 13 *is* a milestone birthday :) You're a great friend to be so thoughtful of your friend and her situation. (A word to the wise that it's best to not post such personal info via message board or chat room as no one knows who is behind the monitor ;)
This site has some "inexpensive 13th birthday party ideas" (albeit the site is *not* for school or professional research and it's a ".com" which usually means commercial or for-profit): http://www.ehow.com/list_6157514_inexpensive-party-ideas.html
Here is another page at the aforementioned site re: (regarding) "thirteenth birthday party ideas for girls on a budget": http://www.ehow.co.uk/list_6577934_thirteenth-party-ideas-girls-budget.html
To make a fruit punch (please *no* alcohol :) one can use some fruit juice mixed with 7-up or ginger ale. (Seltzer water can be somewhat salty.)
For a gift, perhaps you can each put in a few dollars for a gift certificate of her favorite store.
On a slightly different note, please do *not* engage in dangerous or risky behaviors just because it seems like "fun". That would include (not) "huffing" (fumes or chemical vapors). My friend actually has a severe BRAIN INJURY from inhalant use at the age of 12, now in her 30s. The chemicals in products used for huffing are actual POISONS that were never meant to go through the bloodstream. (That includes *not* using whippets - inhaling the gas from whipped cream dispensers which is nitrous oxide.) Field experts have referring to huffing as Chemical Russian roulette due to its unpredictable effects.

To continue re: dangerous behaviors, please do *not* take part in "the choking game", also known as Suffocation roulette or "the pass out" game. (The dangers include forced hyperventilation.)

I'm sure that you and your friends are into positive behaviors, though I just wanted to give a cautionary as there is a lot of misinformation out there ;)
